Michael Dennis is a local sculptor who lives and works on Denman Island, British Columbia. We have worked with Michael on several projects and have had the pleasure of visiting his studio a number of times to see how he works. His sculptures are typically large scale carved wooden forms, with a simple gesture and a unique elegance. He begins with a tree, mostly sourced from his own back yard or from Vancouver Island, and carves away to uncover the natural curves and nuances of each piece of wood. The forms he creates are gestural representations of the human body. Each piece is unique but they all capture the essence of the human gesture in a raw, minimalist way.
